Winter Wishes 2018

Lakeview’s Winter Wishes allows the community to show they care by helping Lakeview families share in the joy of gift giving and receiving during the holiday season. Rhonda Nelson, our school counselor, confidentially facilitates gathering the wishes from our Winter Wishes families and delivering the gifts to them. Lakeview students, with their parents then select one or more wishes and fulfill them for these families.

Winter wish tags will be available for pick up both before and after school in the front office until November 30. If you are unable to come with your child, you may fill out a Winter Wishes Permission Form so they may select a wish to fulfill. You can also purchase items online on the Lakeview Elementary Winter Wishes Amazon Wish List.

Bring all items unwrapped to school office on or before December 7.

Contact PTSA VP Cate Emerick if you have questions:  [email protected]

Thanks to Rose Hill Dominos

We can’t thank Rose Hill Domino’s Pizza enough for their support of our classroom teachers and Homework Club.

Will, the manager, is supporting our Homework Club students and tutors with a pizza party every month in recognition of their hard work. He has also extended a fantastic offer for pizzas for school events.

Thank you Will and Rose Hill Dominos!

PTSA on Houghton & Everest Center Re-zoning

4/13/2017 Update: It’s not too late to email the City Council and the Houghton Community Council. Here is a simple quick email you can personalize.

3/29/2017 Update: See the letter from the Lakeview PTSA to the Kirkland City Council

Lakeview Elementary PTSA members voted in a special meeting on March 20, 2017 to oppose the proposed re-zoning of the Houghton & Everest Neighborhood Centers. For information on the proposed re-zoning please see: http://www.houghtoneverestcenter.com/ or city website: www.kirklandwa.gov/he6th

Why did the PTSA take a position on this re-zoning?
The re-zoning proposal does not consider educational impacts but merely defers that to the Lake Washington School District. It will continue to put pressure on our schools with respect to overcrowding. Lakeview is already overcapacity and will have classes in the shared spaces next year. The school district cannot keep up with current City growth and zoning. A negative impact on schools affects all kids living nearby now and in the future.

What is the project timeline?

  • March 23, 2017 – Open House & Joint Public Hearing with the Planning Commission & Houghton Community Council. 6 PM – Open House. 7 PM Public Hearing. City Hall (123 5th Avenue)
  • March 27, 2017 – Houghton Community Council Meeting – Recommendation to City Council. 7 PM, City Hall
  • April 13, 2017 – Planning Commission Meeting – Recommendation to City Council. 7 PM, City Hall
  • April – May 2017 – City Council and Houghton Community Council Final Decisions

Announcing Lakeview Nutrition Program

Following on the Heels of this Fall’s wonderfully successful Lakeview ASB Snack/Food drive to support Hopelink and families in need, the Lakview PTSA would like to introduce the new PTSA Lakeview Nutrition Program.

The Lakeview Nutrition Program will collect donations to support the existing Lakeview Snack Programs and Pantry Pack Program. This program is designed to supplement and assist with students nutritional needs, as well as to ensure that ALL our kids learn with their tummies full. 1 in 7 Lakeview students need help meeting their daily nutritional needs (14%). Our goal is to facilitate, support and improve access to food, so no one in our Lakeview community goes hungry.

As a very first step we invite the Lakeview community to bring snack items (see list below) or a monetary donation to any future Lakeview event. Starting at Multi-Cultural Night on December 1, 2016, there will always be a donation bin present at Lakeview events, so you can help neighbors in need.

If you have any questions or would like to help end hunger in our community, please contact Lale Giray or Karee Oliver.
