Hey Leopards! How will you change the world?

2021 Reflections program is now open!

The Reflections program is a National PTA cultural arts competition. The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to creatively express themselves through their own original works of art created around a specific theme.

Reflections theme for 2021-2022: “I Will Change the World By”

Use your imagination to create a film, song, artwork, photograph, poem, short story or dance routine. Each entry must be accompanied by an Entry Form (see end of this post for form ).  Deadline for submission is Nov. 2.

Reflections 2021

Reflections 2021

Categories Include:

  • Literature–  works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, prose, reflective essay, screen play and play script, and short story.
  • Visual Arts (2D or 3D) – Works of both fine and design arts are accepted, including but not limited to: architectural drawing and models, ceramics, collage, computer generated images and graphics, crafts, drawing, fashion clothes and jewelry, fiber work, mixed media, painting, printmaking, and sculpture.
  • Photography – Photo must be a single print/digital image.
  • Musical Composition – original musical composition, with or without words.
  • Dance Choreography – originally choreographed dance composition.
  • Film Production – original works, with or without sound, of animation, narrative, documentary, experimental or music video/film.

Reflections FAQ:

Who can participate?

Students from Kindergarten to 5th grade are invited to participate. During the judging portion, works are critiqued against others in the same grade division. There are 2 grade divisions:

  • Primary – Kindergarten through 2nd grade
  • Intermediate – 3rd through 5th grade

What do I, the student, do?

  • Decide what the theme means to you and communicate that through your choice of the arts categories: Visual Arts, Literature, Photography, Choreography/Dance, Music Composition and Film Production
  • Entries are created outside of school work.
  • All artwork must be the ORIGINAL work of the student.

Can I make it any size and shape?

Because there are so many entries from across the country, there are specific guidelines on all of the entry types. A copy of these guidelines can be found at the bottom of this page. Please read carefully the Presentation and Format statements.

Do I need to fill out all the information on the Student Entry Form?

Yes, you do! In order to be qualified for the judging portion, you have to fill it out completely and submit it with your entry. It is very important to give your work a Title and complete the Artist Statement – a creative Title and a detailed Artist Statement is preferred. Please also have your parent/legal guardian sign the form along with your signature. Student Entry Forms are available in the office and below.

Do I need to submit my entry in a special format?

Yes. On the Rules and Guidelines forms, please check off items under the Checklist for Preparing Your Entry so that all guidelines are met. For Photography and Visual Arts entries, place artwork/photo in a plastic sleeve which can be found at local craft & art supplies stores.

When is it due?

November 2, 2021.  Please submit completed project to the main office at Lakeview Elementary.

How will my participation be recognized?

Your artwork will go through a judging process and some entries will advance to the district competition. All students who submit an entry will be acknowledged for their participation. Some entries will win awards at the school level and then possibly at the Council, State and National level.

I still have questions?

If you have questions, please contact Renee Hesky:  [email protected]

Rules & Forms:

  • Official rules can be found on the Washington State PTA website under “Student Entry Packet” tab located under “Resources.”
  • Every artwork must have an entry form attached: Lakeview-Reflections-Entry-Form-2021

Welcome Back Leopards!

2021-22 Welcome Message from PTSA

Welcome Back Leopards! We are so excited to be back together (safely!) this year, and ready to make the 2021-2022 school year awesome!!

PTSA Co-President Andrea Patzer

PTSA Co-President Andrea Patzer

PTSA Co-President Jennifer Davis

PTSA Co-President Jennifer Davis

We are your new Lakeview PTSA Co-Presidents, Andrea Patzer and Jennifer Davis, and we’d love for you to join us in PTSA.

PTSA (Parent, Teacher, Student Association) is meant to help each and every kid have the best school experience possible, and that’s our aim. PTSA supports extra-curricular activities like multicultural night, science fair, dance night, art walk and other social events – along with helpful programs like winter wishes and pantry packs. While this year will look a little different, we will still work to be inclusive, fun, and supportive of all the kids, parents and teachers at Lakeview.

So come join the fun! We’ve got two events scheduled – first, a play date and get-to-know-you event, on Saturday, Sept. 18th at 10:30 am. We’ll have a coffee and donuts, and let the kids run around on the playground, while parents mingle. New to the area? Join us! Been around awhile and have an older student, join us! A great chance for the kids to romp and get reacquainted and for the adults to chat. We will be outside, but masks for all are encouraged.

Our first “official” PTSA get-together will be Tuesday, Sept. 28th at 5:30 pm at Google Park (at the tables between the zip line and volleyball court. Outside, socially distanced and kiddos can play at the park area while we chat). If you’re unsure of what PTSA does or how you can help, please come! We’d love to find a few folks to coordinate small projects here and there – we’re not asking for a huge commitment. And it’s a great way to socialize with other Lakeview families.

Last but not least, if you haven’t done so – please be sure to sign up for PTSA; https://lakeviewptsa.org/membership/

Enjoy the last few days of summer break and remember: every Lakeview student will be provided with the appropriate school supplies on the first day of school, thanks to PTSA (so no need to stress about finding the perfect #2 pencils).

Looking forward to seeing you all in September!

~Andrea & Jennifer

PTSA leadership fundraising appeal

2019-20 PTSA fundraising 101:

We do fundraising a little differently than some schools. Instead of having kids sell tchotchkes door to door we make a simple ask once a year for donations. The Lakeview PTSA plans to spend $161 per student, and we get about a 60% per kid participation rate in fundraising overall.

Anything you give will be directly spent improving the quality of your kids’ educational experience.

There are a few changes to fundraising this year:

  • The Jog-a-thon is now the Read-a-thon. We’ve got some fun activities planned!
  • We are not planning on doing an auction this year. That fundraiser was a special push to purchase the new playground. Now that the playground is here we are going back to “business as usual.”
  • Donations have moved online – see the Read-a-thon page for more details.

Did you know that more than 50% of our PTSA dollars were raised during this push last year?  Given that we aren’t doing an auction this spring, we need to raise about 80% of the money we will raise this year in the next few weeks.

Please take action to support our kids and our school today, and please make sure your donations are supported if a match is available from your employer!

It’s fundraising time!

It’s time again for our annual PTSA fundraiser for Lakeview Elementary!

It’s fundraising week!

This year, instead of the Jog-A-Thon, we are doing a Read-a-thon!

Get ready and act on the two simple steps below in support of our school’s fundraising:

Step One: Please register your student (https://www.getmovinfundhub.com/login) so that they can start collecting donations. Use the Lakeview School Identifier # 5db1ebbaccd80.

Step Two:  Mark your calendars for the evening of Thursday, November 14th at 5:30PM for our PAJAMA PARTY READ-A-THON. It will be the culminating event for our fundraising week. First-floor classrooms and the gym will be set up with different reading stations. Bring your book, a snack, a flashlight, and anything cozy you’d like (blanket, pillow, sleeping bag). Kids–don’t forget to bring your parents!

Bike or Walk to school day 2019

Q: Why can’t a bicycle stand up on its own?
A: Because it’s too tired!

We know our Lakeview Leopards won’t be too tired to join the fun for bike or walk to school day on Friday, Oct. 11th (rain or shine!).
